According to Globo.com, Flamengo head coach Leonardo Jardim has been charged by the STJD for serious disrespect towards referee Davi de Oliveira Lacerda, following the 3-0 defeat to Palmeiras at the Maracanã on Saturday in the 17th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
The remarks were made in the post-match press conference. Jardim said it was very easy to show red cards to Flamengo, questioned the criteria used, compared both clubs’ records under the official and concluded the referee always favours the same colour. Sub-prosecutor Eduardo Ximenes argued the comments attacked the honour, impartiality and integrity of the officials and the competition, undermining the referee’s authority and casting doubt on the 2026 Brasileiro.
He added that free speech and technical criticism have clear ethical and legal limits. Claims of dishonesty, partiality or club-colour bias amount to serious disrespect, and statements from a high-profile coach can inflame supporters and foster distrust that harms the sport.
The Portuguese coach has been cited under article 258 of the CBJD, which covers conduct contrary to discipline or sporting ethics and carries a ban of one to six matches. The hearing date has not been set and will be scheduled by the STJD.
All dismissals in CBF competitions automatically go before the STJD. As a result, Carrascal will face a third hearing this year under article 254 II for violent play through reckless or imprudent action, also punishable by one to six matches. Prosecutors have requested a penalty above the minimum due to repeat offences, after bans totalling four matches across his last two suspensions.
Flamengo have also been reported over cups thrown by home fans during celebrations of Palmeiras’ first and third goals, and for field incursions by private security and unaccredited staff during the late incident. The club risks a fine and loss of home advantage.
