Javier Mascherano recalls what Sergio Busquets told him about future plans as he retires | OneFootball

Some of the biggest names in the recent history of FC Barcelona are currently assembled at another club across the Atlantic Ocean, i.e., David Beckham’s Inter Miami, where they are still entertaining and amazing the football fans with their skills at an advanced stage of their careers.

Players like Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets are all playing in the MLS side, and the team is being coached by none other than Javier Mascherano. However, one of these players, Busquets, is set to leave the American club at the end of this season, as he has already announced his retirement.

In this regard, Mascherano has provided an indication of what career the former Blaugrana midfielder can choose after he hangs up his boots. As MARCA has reported, the Argentine tactician told the media what Busquets had told him about his future:

“We’ve talked in the past, and Busquets told me he will try to be a coach. I don’t know in how much time, but he has all the qualities.”

Mascherano regretted the La Masia graduate’s decision to retire even at this point of his career:

“He mentioned it to me yesterday; he had been thinking about it in recent weeks. It’s a shame because he’s still a player at a very high level and we could keep enjoying his quality.”

The Argentine also hailed the legacy Sergio Busquets will be leaving behind:

“He is a player who changed the way people think about the holding midfielder role a little. I don’t think there would be a Rodri without Busi. One of the best defensive midfielders I’ve ever seen in my life.”

It would definitely be sad seeing such a legendary player hanging up his boots after such an eventful career. Hopefully, he will return to Barcelona in some capacity and help the club going forward in another role.
