With just five matches remaining until the end of the season, Barcelona are in pole position to secure the league title, possibly against Real Madrid in the upcoming El Clasico.
Barcelona have also kick-started their preparations for the season ahead, with the club eyeing moves for Alessandro Bastoni and Julian Alvarez. But whether or not they have the financial capacity to do so is a big question mark.
In a recent interaction, La Liga chief Javier Tebas has addressed all these concerns surrounding Barcelona.
Speaking to the media at the ADESP annual gala, Tebas first addressed the possibility of Barcelona wrapping up the title in the Clasico against Real Madrid.
“I like leagues that are decided in the last league match. Therefore, I’d prefer it not to be in the Clasico, but well, it seems things are pointing that way, and if that’s the case, then whoever wins is welcome,” he said (h/t Diario SPORT).

On Barcelona’s ability to sign high-profile players such as Julian Alvarez, Tebas confirmed that the club need much more to do on the financial fair play front.
“I think they still have work to do. They have to work; here, Financial Fair Play regulations start on July 1st. No team can be Financial Fair Play compliant today because they can’t sign players,” he said.
Finally, on Barcelona’s points tally this season, Tebas admitted he wants a title fight that is closer, rather than the champion team hauling all the points.
“What I don’t like is that it’s too many points for a championship. Real Madrid and Atletico de Madrid have lost a lot of points; they’re below their usual average. I don’t like La Liga with more than 90 points, and that’s the reality,” he concluded.
