Leeds United have tied 18-year-old Jayden Lienou to a new three-year contract, with the left-back expected to join the senior squad on the US pre-season tour. The club said in a statement that the deal runs to 2029.
Lienou joined from Manchester City last summer and became a mainstay for Scott Gardner’s Under-21s, making 26 appearances that included EFL Trophy and National League Cup outings.
He moved into first-team contention late in the campaign, taking a place on the bench for Premier League games against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion after Gabriel Gudmundsson’s injury.
In May he was called up by Craig Bellamy for Wales’ post-season camp and friendlies with Ghana and Romania. Bellamy praised the defender, who was an unused substitute against Ghana, and he has also been capped at under-19 level.
Daniel Farke highlighted the need for more left-footed options last season, with Gudmundsson the only natural senior left-back. Pascal Struijk has departed and £34m signing Tarik Muharemovic is set to operate at left-sided centre-back, and Leeds are expected to assess further left-back options this summer.
