The Confederation of African Football announced on Saturday that Congolese referee Jean-Jacques Ngambo Ndala will take charge of Sunday’s Africa Cup of Nations final between Senegal and Morocco in Rabat, with kick-off at 20:00.

Aged 38, this will be his first final in the competition. Previously he had not gone beyond the quarter-finals, including at the 2023 edition for Cape Verde against South Africa.

Ngambo Ndala has officiated 30 CAF Champions League matches and 17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

It will be his third outing of this tournament, with Gabon’s Pierre Ghislain Atcho assigned to VAR.

Atcho’s appointment is a surprise given controversies during this edition, notably after strong protests from the Algerian Football Federation over his VAR performance in the quarter-final between Algeria and Nigeria, which finished 2-0, when a penalty for the Fennecs was not awarded.
