Jean Michaël Seri announced his international retirement on Thursday, ending an 11-year Côte d'Ivoire career that brought Africa Cup of Nations glory and a 2026 World Cup appearance.

The former Nice midfielder, 34, said in an Instagram post that representing Côte d'Ivoire was an honour and a responsibility he carried with pride, and he thanked team-mates, staff, the federation and Ivorian football supporters for their trust and backing. He won 66 caps and scored 4 goals.

Now with NK Maribor in Slovenia's top flight, Seri featured at five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, winning the 2023 edition and earning a place in the team of the tournament.

The 2026 World Cup was his first, and ultimately his last, with the national side. He featured for around 15 minutes in the group-stage win over Curaçao, a 2-0 victory.

His decision brings down the curtain on more than a decade of service for the Elephants.
