Jean-Philippe Gbamin joins CSKA Sofia after rejecting Metz extension | OneFootball

Free after leaving Metz, Ivorian international Jean-Philippe Gbamin has joined CSKA Sofia on a two-year deal, L'Équipe reports.

The 30-year-old made 31 Ligue 1 appearances for Metz in 2025-2026. He rejected an offer to extend his stay at the club, who were relegated to Ligue 2, and his contract had expired.

Courted by German sides, the former Lens player instead opted for CSKA Sofia, who are in the first qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.

At CSKA he will be coached by Hristo Yanev, formerly of Grenoble between 2006 and 2009.

Gbamin has 24 caps for Côte d’Ivoire and previously played for Lens from 2013 to 2016.
