Jean-Pierre Rivère, who returned as OGC Nice president in December, will become Éric Ciotti’s special adviser at Nice town hall and says he will leave the club in May.

He had chaired Ciotti’s support committee during the campaign after quitting the UDR list in January to avoid a potential conflict of interest. According to L'Équipe, he will be a special adviser rather than first deputy, a choice settled during the campaign.

His remit will cover the mayor’s office and the Métropole, with four briefs, economic development, urban planning, housing and heritage, international partnerships, and major projects.

He said on his return that his third spell would last no more than five months to help keep Nice in Ligue 1. He plans to stay until May and, if possible, until the Coupe de France final on 22 May, after a semi-final at Strasbourg on 22 April.

He says he is focused on survival and preparing next season, which he expects to be complicated by a sharp fall in television rights. If Ineos asked him to remain, he says they are not there yet, there would be no incompatibility, but he cannot do everything.

On choosing a successor, including whether Maurice Cohen could be it, he says he is not there yet. After Auxerre beat Brest 3-0 to move within five points, he says he is vigilant and keeps full faith in the coach and squad.
