Jefté to start amid Palmeiras left-back injuries | OneFootball

Palmeiras are set to start Jefté at left-back after a spate of injuries in the position.

According to Globo.com, Arthur, 20, reported back with a right thigh oedema and did not travel to Belém, while Piquerez is recovering from surgery on his right ankle. That leaves Jefté as the only natural option and in line for his first start in over a month.

He had seized the role when Piquerez was injured during the FIFA window, but hurt his thigh in his first start, against Grêmio. He returned to the squad 20 days later for the first leg of the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil against Jacuipense, by which point Arthur had established himself and Abel Ferreira kept faith with him.

The chance now could help Jefté rebuild confidence. Signed mid last year for about R$ 38 million, he has yet to find rhythm and has been booed at times.

Despite the setback, Arthur is not expected to be out for long, with hopes he returns next week either against Jacuipense in the cup or Cruzeiro in the league.

In mid April, with Piquerez and Jefté in the medical department and Arthur searching for consistency, the staff used Khellven on the left. He featured there after the break in the Libertadores opener at Junior Barranquilla, then started in the derby with Corinthians the following weekend.

Remo host Palmeiras at 16:00 Brasília time on Sunday at Mangueirão.
