Manchester City head coach Andrée Jeglertz said that he was very pleased with how his team performed in their 2-0 victory over Everton at The Joie Stadium on Sunday.

In The Cityzens’ first game since the winter break, Kerolin and Vivianne Miedema got the goals as they saw-off an Everton side who can challenge anyone on their day.

Speaking to the media after the match, Manchester City boss Jeglertz admitted that he was pleased with how his side performed.

“I think Everton are a tricky team to play against,” Jeglertz said. “I think we struggled when we were playing them away in autumn.

“I was a little bit challenged in terms of how they were playing, but we managed it well. Looking over 90 minutes, I think we dominated the game, created a couple of great scoring chances, scored two goals and got a clean sheet. There are some timings that were a little bit off, but it’s also three weeks since we played a game, so it’s quite natural.

“Overall, I’m very pleased with the performance and also the players’ calmness and attitude.”

Forward Khadija Shaw was unable to add to her 104-goal tally for Manchester City but she did get an assist for Miedema’s goal. Jeglertz praised her contribution to the team’s performance.

He said “She’s a great person to work with, she would like to be a little bit better every day. She’s part of the team and she’s working hard for the team, she wants the team to succeed.

“Looking at her as a player, she’s scored a lot of goals, she’s creating the chances by herself. She didn’t score today, but created a lot of chances. As long as she’s doing that and not getting frustrated, losing her head or anything [it’s good]. I think she’s as happy as everybody that somebody else was scoring in this game. She will definitely score some more goals in the future.”

Manchester City are flying at the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table and Jeglertz highlighted the competition for places along the back-line.

He said “Alex [Greenwood] can play as a left-back, I wanted to look at that today. Also, Rebecca [Knaak] has been very good, Leila [Ouahabi] has also been good, so it’s [team selection] based on what kind of players we need in this game. We thought that it gave us a good opportunity in this game to play with a back-three in the build-up, which gave us the opportunity to play with Alex on the left side.”

Manchester City are back in action on Sunday when they travel to AFC Bournemouth for an Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie.
