Jesse Lingard landed at Guarulhos airport in the early hours of Sunday to undergo medical tests and sign a contract with Corinthians through to the end of 2026. The 33-year-old has been a free agent since leaving FC Seoul late last year.
According to Globo.com, he signed a pre-contract on Saturday, with the club arranging his travel to Brazil to finalise the formalities. If all proceeds as planned, an official announcement is expected on Monday.
Asked about choosing Corinthians, Lingard kept it brief, saying he would speak later and that he was happy to arrive. He was welcomed by football manager Renan Bloise, then shouted “Vai, Corinthians!”.
The move has cleared the club’s football department and pleased head coach Dorival Júnior, who approved the signing. Lingard had been offered to Remo and other teams in Brazil and abroad, but opted for Corinthians.
The English attacking midfielder previously featured for Manchester United, spanning two decades including his youth years, as well as West Ham and Nottingham Forest, among other English sides.
His arrival would be Corinthians’ seventh addition of the season, after Pedro Milans, Gabriel Paulista, Allan, Matheus Pereira, Zakaria Labyad and Kaio César. Full-back Anglieri, part of last year’s squad, renewed his deal and remains at the club.
