Former Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard could end up playing against his former club if some crucial developments in his career succeed. For Lingard, it seems as if his career has only declined since departing Manchester United.

As the former England international explained, he regrets the way in which his time at Old Trafford came to an end.

Still, he may just be able to secure a miraculous return to England’s top flight through his latest actions.

Shock exit

Following his exit from Manchester United, Lingard decided to join Nottingham Forest, where he was unable to repeat the excellent performances he produced while on loan at West Ham United back in his Manchester United days.

His time at Nottingham Forest was short-lived, and he ended up as a free agent in 2023, struggling to find a new club until FC Seoul agreed to sign him five months later.

After spending over two years at the Korean club, Lingard left FC Seoul in December 2025, mutually agreeing to a contract termination.

Now, the 33-year-old is unattached yet again, although this time, he is hoping to return to a more competitive league rather than seek an easier life at a smaller team.

Talks ongoing

“Free agent Jesse Lingard has been talking to various British clubs in recent days, including Premier League sides,” the Daily Mail reported.

Interestingly, Lingard is also considering Italy, finding himself “in advanced talks with clubs in Serie A,” as explained in the article.

While Lingard’s return to the Premier League would perhaps feel like a blast from the past for Manchester United fans, they may feel just as strange about him heading to Italy as well.

After all, several former Manchester United players can be found there, with the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay making waves at Napoli this season.
