Palmeiras announced on Saturday 7 February the signing of Jhon Arias from Wolves. The 28-year-old agreed a contract until December 2029 for around €25 million, approximately R$155 million.
According to Nosso Palestra, Palmeiras have now registered the Colombian for the Campeonato Paulista. He is cleared to feature in the second phase, set for 21 and 22 February, with the opponent still to be confirmed.
His registration with the CBF’s BID was finalised on Tuesday 10 February. He is expected in Brazil at the end of this week to join the squad.
Palmeiras have pursued Arias since his Fluminense days, when the Rio club did not want to strengthen a domestic rival with their best player. Fluminense also competed for him in the current move.
At Wolverhampton since the end of the Club World Cup, Arias had a clause granting Fluminense first refusal if the English club sold him. When Palmeiras submitted their bid, Fluminense were notified but did not match or beat it.
With the path clear, Palmeiras reached agreement with Arias and his representatives, leading to the announcement. He wore number 10 in England, making 29 appearances and scoring two goals.
Next up is Internacional x Palmeiras, Brasileirão, 12/02, 21:30, Brasília time.
