Jhon Solis has dropped an update on Birmingham City amid reported transfer interest from Leeds United and Brentford in the Premier League...

Girona midfielder Jhon Solis spent the last half of 2025/26 on loan with Birmingham City, with the 21-year-old impressing and being linked with Premier League sides Leeds United and Brentford.

In all competitions, John Solis played 18 games for Birmingham City and scored once. He started 14 of those matches, including one against Leeds United in the FA Cup defeat at St. Andrew's.

The Colombian started just five of his 14 appearances for Girona prior to his loan switch, with the La Liga side struggling down in 16th in the table. It's unclear what they want next for the defensive midfielder.

Birmingham have a number of players in on loan, with many now heading back to their parent clubs after Blues achieved their highest league finish in the English pyramid since 2016 when they also finished 10th.

Within Solis' move from the La Liga outfit to Birmingham, an initial loan fee had been paid but the midfielder could be signed permanently by the Championship side through a £6.9 million option-to-buy.

Said option would become mandatory if an appearance-related clause was to be triggered. However, it has since been claimed that the appearance clause, which related to Solis playing in 11 matches, was also minutes-related.

Those appearances that he made led reporters to believe that the Colombian will be at St Andrew's next season — although Chris Davies has since said the club are in talks with City Football Group over a deal for him.

However, even if he arrives permanently, he could end up exiting the club immediately. That is due to the fact Leeds and Brentford are reportedly tracking Solis and his progress over this season.

Solis took to Instagram amid Birmingham's season ending, stating: "They embraced me like one of their own; I value and respect them.

"Thank you for these months that made me feel like I was in my neighborhood, like I was at home. We always try to repay that affection on the field. Thank you, Blues 💙💪🏽"

Jhon Solis should be signed by Birmingham this summer

Birmingham's level of ambition will underpin a lot of the decisions Tom Wagner and co. make this summer. There is very little room for sentiment in the market. If the aim is to accelerate up the pyramid and re-establish the club as a serious force, then being ruthless and decisive is essential across every department.

That ruthlessness must apply to recruitment. Players who do not fit the desired style or lack the consistency to deliver promotion-level performances cannot be carried. Equally, signings need to be targeted, with a clear emphasis on athleticism and availability, while also being superb technically and mentally.

However, it also extends beyond the pitch. Backroom staff, recruitment structures, and performance departments must be aligned with the club’s long-term vision. Ambition without execution leads nowhere. That said, someone like Solis is both young enough and good enough to be a real asset.

He may be able to develop with the club as he heads towards his prime years, or he could be improved and then sold in time. Premier League interest suggests that they should be doing all they can to retain his services this summer.
