Joan Garcia was named Barcelona’s man of the match against Rayo Vallecano after the team’s 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon, and rightfully so given the heroics he pulled off.
The Spaniard was stunning in between the sticks for the Catalans, keeping a clean sheet defending a narrow one-goal lead, and making four saves.
He saved an xG of 1.44 and made seven recoveries at the Spotify Camp Nou with two successful defensive contributions and 100% successful runs out.
Speaking to the media after the game, Joan Garcia expressed his happiness with the result and explained how the game was anything but simple.
“We’re very happy. It was a very difficult game against a very good team and manager.”
“We knew it was important to win 3 matches before the break. We suffered a little,” he added.

Speaking on the team’s performance on the night and how it was slightly sub-par, the goalkeeper said,
“We weren’t as good with the ball as we usually are.”
“We were not good, but winning is the most important thing and we’re very happy,” he added.
At one point in the game, the Spaniard appeared injured and set to leave the field. However, he stayed on and earned the man of the match title.
“I have a little muscle overload, but nothing serious. I’m fine,” he said, providing an update.
“I’m fine. I’m not injured,” he added.
Finally, the player reacted to his national team call-up for the upcoming international break, saying,
“I’m very happy to be called up for the Spanish national team.”
Garcia will now join the Spanish national team for the upcoming international break and is in line to make his debut. Barcelona, however, will only hope he returns fit and rested.
