João Afonso close to FC Porto move after Sporting bid rejected | OneFootball

FC Porto are close to agreeing a deal with Santa Clara for 19-year-old goalkeeper João Afonso, who is expected to bolster Porto in 2026/27.

According to O Jogo, the package is expected to be between two and four million euros, with Porto players also moving the other way.

Sporting lodged an offer of under one million euros, which Santa Clara rejected as the valuation did not convince, with the club viewing Afonso as a major prospect.

Afonso has trained with the first team since he was 16, and ended the season as Santa Clara’s starter. Petit handed him the gloves for the final two matches, against Nacional and FC Porto.

The goalkeeper has been called up by Oceano Cruz for the Toulon Tournament, alongside Francisco Silva of Sporting and Diogo Fernandes of FC Porto.

Sporting had targeted Afonso as a reinforcement for their B team in 2026/27.
