João Cancelo names the player he views as Barcelona’s ‘soul’ | OneFootball

Barcelona star João Cancelo has revealed his take that midfield starlet Gavi is considered the club’s ‘soul’ by those in the Blaugrana dressing room.

Youngster Gavi is for his part of course fresh off marking his return to the pitch following a long-term spell on the sidelines with an injury.

Owing to repeated issues stemming from an ACL tear, the Spanish international has now not strung together a consistent run of top-level performances since all the way back in 2023.

As alluded to above, though, such woes have not at all affected Gavi’s reputation behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

Speaking during an appearance in front of the media this week, the aforementioned João Cancelo – who returned to the Camp Nou in January – was asked to name the ‘soul’ of Barcelona’s squad.

And the Portuguese full-back went on to explain:

“Gavi is the soul of the team. Everything he does, on and off the field. He’s a really cheerful guy who lays into you during training sessions, and in the end, that also makes us all start bringing more intensity.”
