Joao Pedro 15th in Premier League in important striker stat – but can kick that up a gear next year

Joao Pedro is one of few Chelsea players to come out of this Premier League season with any credit, and the stats show it.

With the Premier League season now complete, it’s interesting to look at the stats and see where various Chelsea players ranked for the year.

It was a horrible season for the Blues in the end so there’s not much to be impressed by. Our player of the season did at least put up some good numbers, according to Fotmob’s summary of the season.

Chelsea striker shows what he can do in bad team with strong xG numbers

In terms of xG per 90 minutes, Joao Pedro is the only Chelsea player up there with the big boys. He’s 15th in the league, with 0.5 xG per game. Considering a number of the players above him had a much smaller sample size, that’s good going.

Let’s also not forget that JP had two months without a goal in the Autumn. The potential is there for him to do far better this coming season now he’s really settled in, and hopefully playing in a much better and more free scoring team under incoming manager Xabi Alonso.
