Johan Plat to take SC Cambuur job and make Eredivisie debut | OneFootball

Johan Plat has been appointed head coach of SC Cambuur on a two-season contract with an optional extra year, and is set to make his Eredivisie debut next term.

El Periódico Mediterráneo reports that Cambuur, currently in the second tier, have already sealed automatic promotion with three matches remaining, 15 points clear of third. Plat left CD Castellón in September.

He will replace veteran coach Henk de Jong, who has chosen to step aside but will remain on staff as assistant. Next season will be Cambuur’s 10th in the top flight, the last coming in 2022-23.

He is delighted to join, believes Cambuur’s attacking style suits him, and aims to take the next step in the Eredivisie.

The Dutchman joined Castellón in 2023 as Dick Schreuder’s assistant in Primera Federación, helping win their group and secure promotion to Segunda. Early in the second tier they spent several weeks in play-off places.

A run of four straight defeats then led to Schreuder’s dismissal and Plat’s promotion. It took three matches for his first win, 1-3 at Racing de Ferrol, and survival was clinched in the penultimate round with a draw against Eldense at Castalia.

He stayed on for this season, starting from pre-season as head coach, but a slow start, two draws in the first five games and a squad needing time to gel saw him removed. His record at the helm was six wins, eight draws and 10 defeats in 24 matches.
