Aston Villa suffered a major blow this afternoon when John McGinn went off injured in their 2-1 victory over Leicester City at Villa Park.
The Scottish International was substituted for Jacob Ramsey in the 19th minute and could be missing for several weeks depending on the severity of the injury. McGinn did walk off the pitch unaided back to the substitute bench.
When asked about the injury, manager Unai Emery said: “I think it could be hamstring. He could be out for two, three, four, five weeks.”
Villa and McGinn will find out more information in the coming days but should it be in the worst-case scenario it will mean the 30-year-old will miss the game against his boyhood side Celtic on January 29 in the Champions League.
The midfielder joins an injury list that already includes Pau Torres, Diego Carlos and Jaden Philogene. It is his second hamstring injury this campaign having missed games against Ipswich Town, Manchester United and Bayern Munich earlier this season.
The only previous injury during his Aston Villa career came in the 2020/21 season when he missed 15 games through an ankle injury.
