John Mousinho has called for more investment from Portsmouth owner Michael Eisner
Portsmouth have successfully retained their Championship status for another season, but boss John Mousinho has set out clear financial demands for the future.
Pompey were thrashed 5-1 by Coventry City on Tuesday night, a result which saw Frank Lampard's men crowned as second-tier champions following a stellar campaign.
Despite their comprehensive defeat at the hands of the Sky Blues, Portsmouth's safety was confirmed because then relegation rivals, Oxford United, were beaten 1-0 by Wrexham.
John Mousinho's men now sit seven points clear of the Championship relegation zone with just two games remaining.

The current campaign marks the second season in which Mousinho has guided Portsmouth to second-tier survival, following their League One title triumph in 2024.
Pompey can still better last season's points tally of 54 by earning a win and a draw from their last two Championship fixtures, which see them travelling to Stoke City before hosting Birmingham City.
However, Mousinho has addressed the actions that the Fratton Park club must now take to ensure that they make more progress moving forward.
Speaking to BBC Sport, the 39-year-old said: "The investment we've put in terms of the infrastructure has been amazing, considering where we were as a club (when Michael Eisner completed his takeover) in 2017 and previously, when the fans saved the club.
"But we're still a long, long way behind other Championship clubs in terms of infrastructure, in terms of the training ground, staff networks, all of those sort of things, so we have got to keep going with that.
"I think we have to take a view in terms of where we want to be with the playing budget, and I think that's going to be a conversation over the next couple of weeks.
"If we don't invest, on and off the pitch, I think we'll perennially be in this relegation fight, and we need to try to move away from it."
Mousinho continued: "The strategy over the past couple of years has been very short-term, and we've just been making sure we are focused on staying in the Championship.
"We have spent money, but we have brought players in who are not necessarily ones for the future."
Portsmouth made a poor account of themselves in their 5-1 defeat to Coventry, but proved their worth when they earned successive wins over Middlesbrough, Ipswich Town, and Leicester City before being beaten by Lampard's side.
The Fratton Park outfit seemed to be destined for an unwanted League One return when they failed to win a game in March and suffered a 6-1 defeat to Queens Park Rangers.
However, a five-game unbeaten run immediately followed their loss to QPR, and included the aforementioned wins over Boro, the Tractor Boys, and the Foxes.

At just 39 years old, Mousinho has proven himself as a highly promising young manager by leading Portsmouth to League One glory before cementing their Championship status for two consecutive seasons.
His impressive exploits at Fratton Park are likely to have caught the eye of other second-tier outfits, many of whom have put more investment into their squads and infrastructure than Pompey.
After steering the Hampshire side to second-tier survival in 2025, Mousinho would have wanted to enjoy a more comfortable campaign this time around.
However, Portsmouth's relegation worries remained with them until their penultimate away game of the season.
Therefore, if Pompey owner Eisner doesn't respond to Mousinho's investment demands, the 39-year-old could be tempted to move to a new club, should an appealing offer come his way.
