RWDM were officially taken over on Saturday by former president Thierry Dailly, ending the ownership of John Textor’s Eagle Football, the club said in a statement.
Dailly regains control and will return as president, with the ambition to stabilise the institution and restore a strong Brussels identity. He had first taken charge 11 years ago before stepping back following Eagle’s arrival.
Molenbeek were relegated on sporting grounds to the Belgian third tier, the first amateur level, after failing to secure a professional licence, and have been dealing with financial problems.
The club had been seeking a buyer after Textor withdrew, with talks over a sale dragging. He has now transferred all his shares to Dailly, who becomes the sole shareholder.
A press conference is scheduled for Monday to set out the broad direction of the new president’s project.
