Bolton Wanderers should target Queens Park Rangers' Harvey Vale and Celtic striker Johnny Kenny before the close of the transfer window.

Bolton Wanderers have rebuilt themselves over the summer transfer window, with Steven Schumacher experiencing his first pre-season and full window as Wanderers boss aiming to get the Trotters back among the best in League One.

Fergal Harkin, formerly of Standard Liege, has arrived as the club’s new Sporting Director, with Jimmy Dickinson coming in to be the new Head of Recruitment, having previously worked with Schumacher at both Bury and Plymouth Argyle.

Schumacher had warned supporters against a major overhaul and clear out of the squad, but the Whites have in fact been able to make a lot of changes to their squad, with several key first-teamers, such as Nathan Baxter, Ricardo Santos and Gethin Jones, not having their contracts renewed.

As well as that, the likes of Luke Southwood, George Thomason, Klaidi Lolos and Aaron Collins have been sold on; and it would be no surprise to see further outgoing business before the end of the window.

In terms of incomings, Bolton have also been busy with Schumacher’s desire to recruit for a different shape being met with the arrival of four new wingers: Amario Cozier-Duberry, Thierry Gale, Ibrahim Cissoko and Charlie Warren.

As well as that, goalkeepers Teddy Sharman-Lowe, Nathan Broome and Tyler Miller have arrived alongside defender Richard Taylor, midfielders Xavier Simons and Ethan Erhahon, as well as strikers Mason Burstow and Sam Dalby.

Bolton are unlikely to be done there, though, and Football League World has looked at two more additions who would be ideal in continuing the transformation of their squad.

Johnny Kenny, Celtic

Schumacher has discussed his desire for different profiles of strikers, and he has two of them through the door with Mason Burstow on loan from Hull City, who has started the season very well, and Sam Dalby on a free transfer from Wrexham, who suffered a hamstring injury in pre-season and is only just returning.

The other forward wanted is likely to be more of a runner and someone who can stretch defences and get in behind, and one man who falls into that category would be Celtic forward Johnny Kenny.

The former Shamrock Rovers man has been heavily linked with a move to Wanderers all summer, with the Lancastrians reportedly having a bid rejected, but rumours of his move were quashed by him signing a new contract at Celtic.

However, with Celtic scrambling at the end of the window to get their own players in, it could well be that Kenny eventually does find himself further down the pecking order at Celtic Park and sent out on loan.

If a loan move is sanctioned, then Bolton have to be at the front of the queue as they have seemingly left the option open to sign another forward all summer, seemingly with the intention of filling that gap with Kenny.

Harvey Vale, QPR

The wide options have been filled, but there is a feeling that another body will be required with Schumacher wanting inverted wide players and the left-side now chock-full with Carlos Mendes Gomes, Ibrahim Cissoko and Thierry Gale respectively.

On the right-side, though, Charlie Warren will likely be on the fringes of the first-team squad and Szabolcs Schon has been omitted from the squad throughout the start of this season, with the expectation be that he leaves, too.

That leaves a spot to back up Amario Cozier-Duberry as a left-footed right-winger and one man who could fill that gap is former Chelsea man Harvey Vale, who is now at Queens Park Rangers.

Vale has struggled for game time since joining the Hoops in January, and made his debut off the bench on the opening day of the season for the R’s against Preston North End before then being an unused substitute once again.

More commonly deployed an attacking midfielder, his versatility to play out-wide is very useful for a Bolton side that are stacked in wide areas now, but with players who can go in behind and beat a man, whereas someone in the mould of Cozier-Duberry, who can also create from deeper positions will be required too.

John McAtee has been at the club and is yet to convince and the same can be said for Joel Randall, too, albeit the latter has shown signs of improvement, and so there could also be a desire to fill the number ten spot, or at least bolster options, and Vale would assist with that.
