Jordan Henderson injured in freak fall after England beat Mexico at World Cup | OneFootball

England reached the World Cup quarter-final with victory over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium, and former Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson was taken to hospital after a post-match fall.

According to Sunderland Echo, the unused substitute fell over an advertising board while celebrating with team-mates and injured his wrist. The report suggested he will not return to England’s Kansas City base and will receive treatment in a Mexico City hospital.

Two goals from Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and a Harry Kane penalty helped the Three Lions edge out the co-hosts in a five-goal contest played before a 100,000 crowd.

England had to see out more than 40 minutes with 10 men after Jarell Quansah was shown a straight red card, upgraded by VAR following a strong challenge on Jesus Gallardo.

Manager Thomas Tuchel said he felt mixed emotions, praising his side’s mentality and heart and calling it a very special night.

He added that Henderson’s wrist injury was serious and that the midfielder was in hospital, noting he did not yet know the next steps.
