Jordan Henderson is set to make England history at this summer's World Cup finals in North America, having been named last month in Thomas Tuchel's 26-man squad.

The Brentford midfielder's call-up has sparked debate, yet Henderson remains a valued and trusted figure in the Three Lions set-up and is believed to command the respect of team-mates.

An Academy of Light graduate, he won his first senior cap in a 2-1 defeat by France in November 2010, four months after leaving Sunderland to join Liverpool in a reported £15m deal.

Since then he has featured at six major tournaments, level with Sol Campbell and Wayne Rooney for the most by an England player. A seventh this summer will move him clear.

Speaking earlier this month, Henderson said England means a great deal to him and he feels honoured to have the opportunity. He aimed to be the best version of himself, ready to help on and off the pitch, and to give everything for the team’s success.

He reflected that the last few years had been a roller coaster, adding he had worked hard and made sacrifices to reach this point. He said it was about giving everything to make the nation proud and that the squad needed to be themselves.
