Jordan Lefort gets first Mauritania call-up, eyes Argentina friendly at La Bombonera | OneFootball

Angers defender Jordan Lefort has earned his first Mauritania call-up on the day his side were beaten 5-1 at Lens in the opening match of Ligue 1’s 27th round.

L'Équipe reports that he learned of the selection earlier on Friday, then outlined his eligibility after the match.

His wife is Mauritanian and his in-laws share that nationality. Passports were secured for his children, who were naturalised. He completed the same process, so once his passport was valid he was eligible and the coach selected him.

He will now attend a training camp in Morocco with his new team-mates. After that, Mauritania are due to play Argentina in a friendly at La Bombonera in Buenos Aires.

Lefort called the prospect special but said he is not there yet, adding that he is keen to meet the squad, his team-mates and staff, and to become an international. Argentina arranged the Mauritania fixture after the Finalissima against Spain was cancelled because of the war in the Middle East.
