It is one year today since the sudden passing of Jorge Costa while working at the Centro de Treinos do Olival, which bears the former captain's name.

According to O Jogo, the FC Porto icon died on 5 August 2025, aged 53, after a cardiorespiratory arrest at Olival while serving as Director of Professional Football.

One year earlier he had left the Aves SAD dugout to return home and join the leadership structure headed by president André Villas-Boas, tasked with managing the football department.

His brief also included instilling portismo, leadership and an uncompromising will to win in the dressing room.

As a player he personified those values, becoming one of Porto’s most charismatic figures and inspiring generations of supporters.
