Lazio have reportedly been offered the opportunity to buy versatile West Ham United forward Pablo Felipe.
The Biancocelesti are searching the market for a new striker, as their new head coach, Gennaro Gattuso, has made it clear that this should be the club’s top priority on the market. In recent days, Lazio have been linked with several profiles for the role, including Senegalese free agent Bamba Dieng, Napoli’s Lorenzo Lucca, and AC Milan wantaway Santiago Gimenez.
On Monday morning, Il Messaggero added a new name to the shortlist, claiming that super agent Jorge Mendes has offered Pablo to Lazio, who had already monitored him prior to his West Ham move in January.
The 22-year-old is a Brazilian striker who was born and raised in Portugal. He began his career at Famalicão and went on to make a name for himself at Gil Vicente. After scoring 10 goals in 13 league appearances during the first half of the season, the Hammers spent €25 million to secure his services in the winter.
Pablo is originally a centre-forward, but his WHU coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, played him in a supporting role behind Taty Castellanos, who also joined the English club in January after a €30 million transfer from Lazio, who struggled to replace him despite the arrivals of Petar Ratkov and Daniel Maldini.
Unfortunately for West Ham, neither Castellanos nor Pablo was able to salvage their campaign, as they ended up suffering relegation to the Championship on the final day of the season. The East Londoners’ demotion could prompt an exodus of players, including the Portuguese-Brazilian attacker.
Therefore, it remains to be seen if Lazio will be willing to spend on the Braga native, who could fill various roles in Gattuso’s suggested 4-2-3-1 formation, but would likely be entrusted with leading the line.
