After seemingly completing the Yan Diomande transfer, Real Madrid now turn their attention towards the centre-back position where Jose Mourinho has been demanding a new signing for a while now.

Alessandro Bastoni appears to be well set to be Real Madrid’s top target on that front, but the club prefer to push for that signing once there is a departure at centre-back.

After all, Los Blancos have good depth in the department after Ibrahima Konate’s arrival, and are looking for a second departure after David Alaba before they pull off their second signing for that position.

Asencio’s transfer operation

After the arrival of Konate, Real Madrid academy star Raul Asencio appears to have moved to the bottom of the pecking order. In fact, it has been reported multiple times that Jose Mourinho does not count on the player.

As confirmed in a recent report by Sergi Valentin, Mourinho and Asencio have directly spoken about the player’s future and the coach has conveyed to him that he does not want Asencio in his plans.

His departure is seen as the ‘key’ that can unlock a new defensive signing, and Real Madrid are looking to sell him at the earliest so as to open up space and bring in a new player.

The report also furthers that Asencio’s agent Jorge Mendes is working with Real Madrid to finalise the player’s exit operation by finding a club he is open to joining.

As matters stand, the young defender is completely against a departure this summer and is pushing to stay at the club to fight for his spot.

Only a promising project with a guarantee for minutes at the elite level can possibly change his mind, and his entourage are working hard to find such a suitor.

As reported earlier this week, Mendes has offered Asencio’s services to several top European clubs including Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig as one of the known parties. 

It remains to be seen if any interest is received from the clubs offered his services, especially Leipzig given how Real Madrid and the German club are currently in direct contact over Yan Diomande’s move.
