Jorge Sampaoli dismissed by Atlético Mineiro after draw with Remo | OneFootball

Atlético Mineiro have dismissed head coach Jorge Sampaoli, ending his second spell at the club. The Argentine had been in charge since September 2025.

The club said in a statement that the parties agreed to end his tenure after a meeting at Cidade do Galo on Thursday 12 February. Assistant Lucas Gonçalves will lead the team against Itabirito in Nova Lima on Saturday 14 February.

The decision followed the draw with Remo on Wednesday 11 at Arena MRV, in the third round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.

Sampaoli leaves with 34 matches in charge, 12 wins, 16 draws and eight defeats, a 50.9% return.

He left Flamengo in September 2023 after poor results, then took over Rennes in France before arriving at Atlético Mineiro.

At Flamengo he oversaw 39 matches, recording 20 wins, 11 draws and eight defeats. The side exited the Copa Libertadores in the round of 16, finished Copa do Brasil runners-up, scored 63 and conceded 41.
