Flamengo are pushing to reinforce for the Libertadores last 16 before the transfer window closes on 11 September. On his return, director of football José Boto said the club are not working on Thiago Almada alone.
According to Coluna Do Fla, Luiz Henrique is viewed as a back-up if talks for Almada do not progress. The aim is to sign at least one of the pair in this window, with both regarded as expensive deals.
Speaking to reporters at the airport in the early hours of Tuesday, Boto said his trip to Argentina was not about persuading Almada. He had several club matters to handle, one of them Almada, and he stressed the club would not join bidding wars, with previously discussed terms standing.
He urged supporters to stay calm, adding any arrival must fit Flamengo’s conditions. He also said Almada had never told the club he did not want to join, and that this stance had been made clear to the player’s camp.
Such negotiations are complex, and both Almada and Luiz Henrique are capable of raising the squad’s level.
