Palmeiras councillor José Corona Neto has filed a moral damages claim against club president Leila Pereira following a heated exchange at the club’s Deliberative Council meeting on 16 December 2025.
According to Nosso Palestra, the action was lodged at São Paulo’s Special Civil Court and seeks R$20,000 in compensation.
Corona says he was insulted during the ordinary session after he criticised the team’s sporting management and spending on football. He alleges Pereira replied with personal slurs, including calling him a coward, a failure and unbalanced.
Council minutes underpinning the suit record his remarks on performance, transfer outlay and political conduct, followed by Pereira’s response using the terms now cited in his claim. He maintains the comments crossed from internal politics into a personal attack, with impacts inside the club, among acquaintances and in the sports media, citing nationwide coverage.
The case was initially filed in the wrong venue and has been transferred from the Pinheiros Regional Court to the Special Civil Court at the Central Forum. Following redistribution, it will undergo an initial review to decide whether it is admitted, after which Pereira would be summoned to present a defence. The pair are due to meet again on Tuesday 17 at the Palmeiras Social Club for another council session.
