José Mourinho to leave Benfica for Real Madrid, ‘to be presented next week’ | OneFootball

José Mourinho is leaving Benfica and will return to Real Madrid after an agreement was finalised on Thursday, 14 May.

CMTV reports the formal announcement is expected in the coming days, with a presentation set for next week.

Mourinho previously managed Madrid from 2010 to 2013, winning La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Supercopa.

The timing is delicate for Benfica, who remain in a fight for second place and Champions League qualification. Despite persistent rumours, Mourinho has avoided addressing the subject in public.

Benfica visit Estoril on Saturday, 16 May, in the 34th and final round, with kick-off at 20:30 at Estádio António Coimbra da Mota. Ian Cathro’s side provide the opposition.

The Amoreira fixture could be Mourinho’s last act in Portuguese football before a high-profile return to Spain. Marco Silva could replace him at Benfica.
