Jose Mourinho wants Real Madrid to bring back academy gem immediately – report | OneFootball

Even before officially taking charge, Jose Mourinho is already looking forward to what he wants his new Real Madrid team to look like.

In that regard, according to Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Mourinho is determined to bring Nico Paz back to the Santiago Bernabeu and has made his position clear to the club’s hierarchy. 

The Portuguese coach sees the 21-year-old as an important piece of his project and wants Real Madrid to activate the €9 million buy-back clause included in the player’s deal with Como.

Mourinho believes Nico can play a major role

Since leaving Real Madrid, Nico has continued to impress with his technical quality, creativity and ability to influence games in advanced areas.

Those qualities are believed to have caught Mourinho’s attention, and it is even suggested that the Portuguese manager has already held conversations with the player in recent days.

More importantly, Mourinho views him as a player capable of fitting naturally into his preferred 4-2-3-1 system. 

His ability to operate between midfield and attack, create chances and link play makes him a profile that Real Madrid currently do not possess in abundance.

That is one of the reasons Mourinho is pushing for the move to happen quickly.

While Mourinho’s enthusiasm is clear, Real Madrid’s decision-makers are approaching the situation with a different view.

The idea of bringing Nico back is receiving serious consideration inside the club but it is also true that the current attacking department is already crowded, and that creates a challenge.

Before welcoming another attacking player, Real Madrid may need to create space within the squad. 

Several positions are already heavily contested, and the club is aware that young players need a realistic pathway to minutes if they are to continue developing.
