Benjamin Sesko’s promising start to life at Manchester United has made things difficult for another young forward at the club.
Signed from RB Leipzig in a deal worth around £74 million, the 22-year-old striker has established himself as Ruben Amorim’s first-choice striker without much hassle.
The Slovenian has two league goals to his name and his all-round game has been exceptional. As such, he is unlikely to lose the starting spot anytime soon, and Joshua Zirkzee might have to wait a while for his first start of the season.
Despite Zirkzee’s underwhelming output, United turned down approaches from Serie A for the technically proficient striker, who impressed as a wide playmaker last term.
However, the arrival of Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo has made him surplus to requirements.
The 24-year-old has made just four appearances this campaign and was an unused substitute in the Red Devils’ 2-0 win over Sunderland.
Clubs in Italy remain keen on the ex-Bologna star and are expected to make a move for him in January.
According to Tutto Juve, Juventus and AC Milan and likely to go head-to-head for the services of Zirkzee, who is “still highly sought-after” in Italy.
It is understood the Netherlands international’s exit is “increasingly likely” with a number of Serie A clubs, including Como, monitoring his situation at Old Trafford.
Juventus could reportedly propose a swap deal involving Dušan Vlahović, whose contract in Turin is due to expire at the end of the season.
The prolific Serbian striker is certainly an upgrade on Zirkzee, having scored 21 goals since the start of last campaign.
Considering Sesko’s age, a reliable forward to shoulder the goalscoring burden would be good for Amorim’s side. However, United may balk at Vlahović’s wage cost.
