Josu Juste, born 12 April 2000 in Leioa, has been appointed head coach of SD Leioa on a two-season contract to June 2028. According to as.com, the former Athletic Juvenil de Honor and Basconia forward moves into the dugout at 26.
He played 21 matches and scored six goals for the azulgrana this season, helping reach the promotion play-offs to Segunda Federación. He succeeds Jon Castrillo and will now lead several recent team-mates.
Juste began coaching at Lagun Artea’s football school, having come through their youth sides as a striker before moving to Lezama. From the bench he has already achieved three promotions with Cadete Lagun, Cadete C and Juvenil B. Last term he guided Juvenil A to the best finish in its history in the demanding División de Honor.
With Athletic, he made 28 appearances and scored 10 goals for the Juvenil de Honor. At Basconia in Tercera Federación he featured 24 times with five goals alongside the noted 2000 class of Paredes, Álvaro Núñez, Sancet, Vencedor, Artola and Urain. He did not progress to Bilbao Athletic, instead moving to Sestao River at Las Llanas, then Portugalete, before returning to Sarriena two seasons ago to join Leioa.
He steps into senior management with the club’s full backing.
