Everton Weigh Up Lois Openda Move as David Moyes Seeks Goals

Everton’s search for greater attacking firepower appears to have led them towards Juventus striker Lois Openda, with Football Insider reporting that the Merseyside club are exploring a potential loan to buy deal for the Belgian international.

For David Moyes, the need is obvious. Everton showed resilience and organisation throughout much of last season, but a lack of consistent goals often prevented them from turning solid performances into victories. Addressing that issue has become a priority heading into the new campaign.

According to the report, Juventus are actively looking to move Openda on after he fell out of their long term plans. The Italian giants are keen to find a solution, creating an opportunity Everton may feel is worth investigating.

Openda Opportunity Appeals to Everton

Football Insider previously revealed that Juventus had effectively “offered” Everton the chance to sign Openda this summer.

The structure of a loan to buy arrangement makes sense from Everton’s perspective. It reduces immediate financial risk while allowing the club to assess whether Openda can rediscover the form that once made him one of Europe’s most productive forwards.

“The addition of a new striker is a top priority for Moyes this summer, as he is desperate to find a more regular goalscorer at the top of the pitch.”

That statement captures Everton’s situation perfectly.

Previous Record Suggests Untapped Potential

While Openda struggled to establish himself at Juventus, his earlier career paints a far more encouraging picture.

The Belgian previously recorded three consecutive seasons of more than 20 goals while playing for Vitesse Arnhem, Lens and RB Leipzig. That consistency cannot be ignored.

“The player’s camp are looking to find a destination that would allow him to play regular first-team football.”

Regular minutes often transform careers. Everton may believe that a clear role and renewed confidence could help unlock the qualities that made Openda one of Europe’s most sought after forwards only a few years ago.

Premier League Chance Could Prove Decisive

Football Insider also reported that Openda is “open” to a move to the Premier League.

For Everton, that willingness matters. Recruitment becomes significantly easier when a player actively wants the challenge.

The move carries risk, but it also carries genuine upside. If Moyes can help Openda rediscover his best form, Everton may secure a proven goalscorer at a considerably reduced cost compared to many alternatives currently available.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

As football supporters, there should be a degree of cautious excitement around this potential move. Lois Openda feels like exactly the type of transfer that can divide opinion, but there is enough evidence from his career to suggest Everton could be getting far more than his recent Juventus statistics indicate.

The key question is whether supporters focus on the player who struggled in Italy or the striker who consistently scored goals in the Netherlands, France and Germany. Three consecutive campaigns above the 20 goal mark do not happen by accident.

There is obvious risk attached. Any player arriving after a disappointing spell elsewhere brings uncertainty. Everton supporters have seen similar stories before and will understandably want proof before getting carried away.

Yet this feels like a calculated gamble rather than a reckless one. A loan to buy structure would protect Everton financially while giving Moyes an opportunity to work closely with a player who clearly needs confidence and regular football.

Supporters should also appreciate that Openda reportedly wants Premier League football. Motivation matters. Hungry players often perform better than established stars looking for one final contract.

If Everton can provide the right environment and Openda can rediscover even a significant portion of his previous form, this could prove one of the smarter pieces of business completed during the summer window.
