Brighton’s recruitment model continues to command respect across Europe, and their pursuit of AIK winger Zadok Yohanna looks like another calculated attempt to move before the market becomes impossible. Credit goes to Simon Jones of the Daily Mail for the original report, which outlines Brighton’s position in talks for the 18-year-old Nigerian talent.
Yohanna only joined AIK from Ikon Allah academy in Nigeria last summer, yet his rise has already forced some of Europe’s most powerful clubs into action. The report describes him as a “highly-rated flying winger”, and that wording feels apt given the profile. A left-footed attacker operating from the right, he offers the kind of direct threat, speed and technical confidence that elite recruitment teams now prioritise.
Brighton being involved should surprise nobody. Their success has been built on identifying talent before wider hype turns promise into unattainable pricing.
The level of interest around Yohanna is striking. According to the report, Chelsea, Tottenham, Real Madrid, Rennes, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund have all monitored him. In April’s clash with Kalmar FF, there were reportedly 32 scouts present, all “credited with interest in Yohanna”.
That is not normal attention for a teenager with only seven league appearances. Two goals and two assists provide useful evidence of end product, but the fascination appears to be driven more by projection. His Swedish Cup performances earlier in the year seem to have sharpened interest, with clubs moving quickly to establish whether he can develop into an elite wide forward.

AIK’s stance also tells its own story. The club, listed on the stock market, confirmed on Sunday that they had “opened negotiations to sell”. That public position suggests a deal is no longer theoretical.
Brighton are said to be at the “front of the queue”, with “confidence a deal will be concluded”. The expected fee, around £18-20million, would represent a club record sale for AIK, and a serious but familiar type of gamble for Brighton.
There is context within Fabian Hürzeler’s squad too. Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh have attracted interest, James Milner has retired despite being offered another year, and Adam Webster has left as a free agent. Brighton are also maintaining interest in Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell, valued at around £25m.
Yohanna would not be signed as a finished product. He would be acquired as a high-upside asset with the tools to accelerate quickly. For Brighton, that is often where the greatest value lies.
From a Brighton perspective, this is exactly the kind of report that gets the pulse racing. Zadok Yohanna sounds like a classic Seagulls signing, young, quick, technically sharp and already being watched by clubs who usually sit higher in the transfer food chain.
There is something hugely exciting about seeing Brighton lead a chase that involves Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Chelsea and Tottenham. That tells fans the club’s scouting network is not just alive and well, it is still operating at an elite level. Brighton have made a habit of spotting the next wave before everyone else finishes their homework.
The fee will make people pause, because £18-20million for an 18-year-old with seven league games is not small money. Yet that is the modern market. Wait another season and that figure could double, especially if Yohanna explodes in Sweden or breaks through internationally with Nigeria.
Mitoma and Minteh interest also makes this feel proactive rather than reactive. Brighton cannot afford to stand still. If Yohanna arrives, supporters will see it as another sign that the club are planning ahead, backing their recruitment team and refusing to lose their identity.
For fans, this is not just a rumour. It feels like Brighton doing Brighton things, and that is usually worth getting excited about.
