Liverpool’s summer midfield planning came into focus on Anfield Index’s Media Matters, as Dave Davis asked David Lynch about reported interest in AS Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara and Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare. The discussion arrived after a wider conversation about Liverpool’s struggles under Arne Slot, but it quickly turned towards what could happen next in the transfer market.
Davis framed the issue by saying the midfield was “ever concerning” before referencing reports that “Liverpool are following Monaco’s Lamine Camara.” He also noted there had been links to “another player that you mentioned, Mamadou Sangare at Lens as well.”
For Liverpool, the question was not simply whether either player is admired. It was whether the club will move for a defensive midfielder, or a number six, as part of a broader rebuild.
Asked directly about the chance of Liverpool signing a six this summer, Lynch said: “You kind of group those two together, really.” He explained that he does not watch the French league “very frequently”, but said he had heard “some similarities between them.”
Those similarities were described in terms of profile. Lynch called them “combative midfielders” who “get about the pitch a little bit.” That gives a clear indication of the type Liverpool may be considering, rather than confirming that one name is definitively ahead of the other.
Lynch then added: “It would be, I would imagine with those two, one or the other, definite interest.” That was one of the key lines of the discussion. Liverpool’s reported interest in Lamine Camara and Mamadou Sangare was presented as part of a shared search area, not necessarily two separate deals likely to happen at once.

While Lynch was cautious on the exact identity, he was far firmer on the broader plan. “I do expect them to sign a midfielder,” he said, before going even stronger: “I would almost say kind of ten out of ten for that, that will be one of the bits of business done.”
That is significant because it suggests Liverpool’s need in midfield is seen as clear, even if the final profile depends on departures and squad decisions. Lynch said “profile wise is very difficult to say” because “so much relies on who departs and kind of what they feel that they need.”
He specifically mentioned Curtis Jones and Alexis Mac Allister in that context. On Jones, Lynch said: “I think Jones will go, by the way, I would rate that very highly as a likelihood.” He added that if “Jones and McAllister go”, then Liverpool could look at more than one midfield arrival.
Lynch did not rule out a scenario involving two midfielders. “I think there’s real, there’s a possibility for two midfielders to come in,” he said. In that situation, he suggested it could be “one of those two and maybe Adam Wharton.”
That places AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara and Lens midfielder Mamadou Sangare in a wider Liverpool transfer conversation, rather than an isolated rumour. The key point from Lynch was that Liverpool’s midfield business could shift depending on exits, needs and market conditions.
Still, Davis’s question reflected a growing theme around Arne Slot’s Liverpool, a midfield that has looked unbalanced and a summer that may require significant correction. Lynch’s response was measured, but clear enough on the direction of travel.
