Curtis Jones may be entering a decisive period in his Liverpool career, with just 18 months left on his current contract and strong interest emerging from clubs including Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan. Speaking on Media Matters for Anfield Index, journalist Lewis Steele addressed the growing speculation around Jones and questioned the midfielder’s long-term prospects at Anfield.
Steele confirmed that both Tottenham and Inter Milan have made enquiries about the 23-year-old, with suggestions that there may have been encouragement from Jones’ side. “Is there just a worry with Curtis Jones now? It’s the old there’s no smoke without fire,” Dave Davis asked, to which Steele replied, “If clubs are making enquiries, they’re getting some encouragement you fancy for elsewhere rather than just throwing darts at the dartboard randomly.”
While Liverpool insiders have played down any talk of an imminent exit, reports from Italy suggest that Inter believe Jones is open to a move abroad. “People from Inter’s end seem to think that Curtis wanted to go there. Liverpool people at the Liverpool end don’t seem to think that was the case,” Steele explained.
Despite being a boyhood Red, Jones has struggled to secure consistent minutes. “He’s always like the twelfth or thirteenth man, isn’t he?” Steele said. “He’s one of the first subs that you’d write down, but he is on the subs bench.” The midfielder recently made a brief appearance, coming on with five minutes to go, prompting questions about his satisfaction with his role.
Steele noted the midfield competition is only intensifying. “They want to do Mac Allister as well. They’re in talks with Gravenberch’s people. Szoboszlai has already said a contract is firmly on the table.” Against that backdrop, Jones may find it harder to break into the starting XI.

Now 23, Jones is entering the critical phase of his career. “He’s not like this young up-and-coming player anymore,” Steele stated. “This is his peak years or his next three or four years.” The Liverpool man is also on the fringes of the England squad, and Steele believes that lack of regular football could influence his thinking.
“He’ll probably be looking at the fact he’s just on the fringes of the England squad as well,” said Steele. “Maybe he thinks that a move would be better for him.”
While nothing is decided, the situation is clearly delicate. With 18 months left on his contract, and strong interest from top clubs, Liverpool and Jones may soon be forced to confront whether a future at Anfield remains the right fit for both parties.
