Juan Sartori joined jubilant scenes with Kyril Louis-Dreyfus at St James’ Park as Sunderland stunned Newcastle United 2-1, then sent a message to supporters.

Sunderland fell behind early before turning it around after the break to win 2-1. Sartori later posted on social media: “Last minute. Away from home. Sunderland 2-1. What a win. All heart. Right to the very end.” The post featured red and white symbols and a compilation video of his day, echoing the club’s “Till the End” mantra.

He had been pitchside before kick-off with Louis-Dreyfus, taking in the occasion. After full time the pair were seen on the concourse near the away section, applauding and interacting with Sunderland fans.

Despite a lengthy injury list, Régis Le Bris’ team responded with resilience. Chemsdine Talbi, 20 years and 317 days, became the youngest Sunderland scorer against Newcastle in the Premier League before Brian Brobbey’s late winner completed the comeback, igniting celebrations among the 2,000 travelling fans.

The result completed a league double and extended Sunderland’s unbeaten run to 11 league meetings with Newcastle. It is their first league double over their rivals since 2014-15, while Newcastle remain without a league derby win since 2011 and have not beaten Sunderland at St James’ Park in the league since 2010.

The scenes underlined a strengthening bond between the ownership and supporters, with both figures increasingly visible at key moments.
