Juan Sayago named in Flamengo squad to face Coritiba | OneFootball

With 10 absences for Flamengo’s final game of the first half of the year, Leonardo Jardim has turned to youth. He has named 18-year-old Argentine Juan Sayago in the senior squad for the first time for Saturday’s meeting with Coritiba at the Maracanã, kick-off 16:00 Brasília time.

According to Globo.com, the head coach has called up several under-20 players to bolster the bench.

The midfielder belongs to River Plate and arrived this year alongside Mexican forward Diego Reyes from América-MEX, also 18. Both joined on loan with an option to buy, and Sayago trained with the first team on Thursday and Friday, placing him at the front of the queue for a debut.

Sayago has impressed as an under-20 regular, starting in all but one of his 19 appearances. He has scored three goals and provided one assist.

He also supplied the pass that led to the winner in the 2-1 victory over Santos, with Josmar converting the rebound.

Reyes has yet to secure a place in Flamengo’s under-20 side, making 13 appearances, six as a starter and seven from the bench, without a goal or assist. Neither player featured in the club’s Under-20 Libertadores runners-up campaign, having signed after the tournament’s registration deadline.
