A judge in Alcobendas, Madrid, has sent Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy to trial over an incident involving one of his dogs.
According to Superdeporte, a January 2026 order opened oral proceedings for a suspected offence of injury, set a bond of 7,410 euros and named a Madrid criminal court as competent. No hearing date is set.
Prosecutors seek a fine of 1,200 euros and 5,700 euros in compensation for physical harm and veterinary surgery. The private prosecution asks for six months in prison and a fine of 22,500 euros for physical and moral damages.
The events date to 4 January 2023, when one of Mendy’s four dogs, a Kangal, escaped his property and attacked two dogs and a 17-year-old who went to help an owner, after prosecutors say he failed to secure the gate following a vehicle’s entry, leaving the animal unsupervised.
Near a housing development, the dog attacked another dog, causing injuries that led to euthanasia. The 17-year-old went to help and was bitten, while his pet suffered neck and chest wounds and needed surgery.
The teenager sustained four scarring wounds to his left calf and needed stitches, healing in 30 days. Authorities also say the four dogs lacked microchips, mandatory liability insurance and rabies vaccination.
The judge has admitted Mendy’s questioning with a French interpreter, plus testimony from the teenager, his father, the owner of the euthanised dog and Alcobendas local police.
