Jürgen Klopp named Germany head coach after early World Cup exit | OneFootball

According to Le Progres, Germany have named Jürgen Klopp as head coach on a contract running to the 2030 World Cup, to be staged in Spain, Portugal and Morocco.

He replaces Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned four days after the last 32 defeat by Paraguay, a 1-1 draw followed by a 4-3 loss on penalties.

The 59-year-old moved into coaching at 33 after a modest playing career, taking over Mainz in February 2001 while they battled to avoid a drop to the third tier.

He joined Borussia Dortmund in 2008, lifting the Bundesliga in 2011, the club’s seventh and first for nine years. They reached the 2013 Champions League final at Wembley, losing 2-1 to Bayern Munich.

Klopp took charge of Liverpool in autumn 2015, his first overseas job, winning the Champions League in 2019 against Tottenham 2-0, then the Premier League in 2020. He left in May 2024 citing a lack of energy, having delivered eight further trophies.

Since January 2024 he has served as Red Bull’s global director of football and reprised his television pundit-coach role at the 2026 World Cup. After the tournament, he quickly became the federation’s priority and accepted the task of reviving the Mannschaft.
