The fullback Jules Kounde has been one of the few FC Barcelona players who have been linked with a move away from the Blaugrana club this summer. The Frenchman has remained an important player for the Catalans ever since they signed him from Sevilla, but there is no doubt that the last season was not his best in the blue and garnet jersey.
The defender had been a part of the French national team which participated in the World Cup 2026, and remained an important player for Didier Deschamps throughout the competition. His side was eliminated at the semi-final stage, but still got to play in the third place match, against England, which took place last night.
Owing to the low stakes of this game, he took to the pitch as a substitute for only a few minutes. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, he also talked to DAZN after the game, and among other things, gave a very clear hint about his future. Talking about the upcoming season, the Frenchman said:
“What I hope is to have a great season, rest well first so that I can come back stronger. To have an even better season and help Barça as much as possible.”
These comments clearly show that the defender only has Barcelona on his mind as he looks to come back from the disappointment of having lost out on the World Cup. France was one of the clearest favorites to win the biggest international tournament, but saw their journey come to an end at the semi-final stage.
Despite being linked with other big clubs, most notably Bayern Munich, the France international can now reasonably be expected to remain available for Hansi Flick, as Barcelona look to win the Champions League next season. Hopefully, Jules Kounde will get back to his very best level to help the Blaugrana team achieve this difficult objective.
