According to Ouest France, Julien Lachuer will become Stade Brestois head coach, succeeding Eric Roy, who died on 17 June.
The 49-year-old has been one of Roy’s assistants since January 2023. A former Brest goalkeeper, he played from 2005 to 2010 when the club were in Ligue 2. He is the younger brother of former Auxerre and PSG player Yann Lachuer.
Club owners Denis and Gérard Le Saint, in charge for 10 years, are opting for continuity. Brest are also seeking a sporting director after Grégory Lorenzi left for Marseille.
Taking over from “King Eric” is a major challenge. Roy arrived in early 2023, saved SB29 from relegation, then the following season qualified them for the Champions League, where they made a respectable showing.
Despite that run, the club’s means remain modest and, after 12th place last season, Brest appear intent on leaning on what has worked in recent years.
