Real Madrid are still yet to officially appoint their next manager, but the matter should be resolved as early as next week. If Florentino Perez retains the presidency, he would finalise the appointment of Jose Mourinho, whereas election rival Enrique Riquelme has promised to land Jurgen Klopp is he wins this weekend’s vote.

Riquelme has made several promises to the Real Madrid members in the last few days. He claimed that an agreement has already been reached for Erling Haaland to join, which would become active if he becomes president, while he also ensured that his Manchester City teammate Rodri Hernandez would also be sought.

In regards to Klopp, Real Madrid have regularly been linked with him ever since Xabi Alonso’s exit in January, but Riquelme believes he is the one to convince the former Liverpool manager. However, it certainly won’t be easy, as has now been made clear by his camp.

As per Florian Plettenburg (via Sport), Klopp’s agent Marc Kosicke has reacted to Riquelme’s comments, in which he made it very clear that a return to the dugout is not on the agenda at this stage.

“It’s annoying! Jurgen Klopp is happy in his role at Red Bull and has no ambitions to work as a coach at a club.”

Second time this week that Riquelme has been shot down

It’s not the first time this week that Riquelme’s promises have been shot down by those they refer to. Hours after he made the claim regarding Haaland, the Norwegian striker’s representatives laughed off the claims with a rebuttal, and now the same has happened with Klopp’s agent.

These responses will have done Riquelme no good in the eyes of the Real Madrid members, who are gearing up to go to the polls on Sunday for the first presidential election in 20 years.
