Juve qualify for UCL with victory over Venezia

Juve return from Venice with the three points they needed, as the Bianconeri secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League following a 3-2 win against Venezia, thanks to goals from Kenan Yildiz, Randal Kolo Muani and Manuel Locatelli.

A TRICKY START

Venezia caught out Juventus after just 80 seconds when Daniel Fila beat Michele Di Gregorio. The early goal shook the Bianconeri, who reacted immediately: in the 5th minute, Alberto Costa found the back of the net with a powerful strike, but an unintentional handball led to the goal being disallowed.

The Bianconeri's pressure continued: in the 12th minute Kolo Muani struck an effort goalwards but was unable to find the target. Juventus began to have more possession and finally equalised in the 26th minute: Yildiz received the ball on the edge of the box before striking a precise left-footed effort that left the goalkeeper with no chance.

Just five minutes later, Juve took the lead. Alberto Costa regained possession before picking out Kolo Muani in the box, who beat Ionut Radu to make it 2-1. Venezia tried to react before half-time: in the 43rd minute John Yeboah shot from outside the area but could not find the target. The sides went into the interval with Juve a goal to the good.

A DIFFICULT SECOND HALF, RESCUED BY CONCEICAO AND LOCATELLI

In the second half, Venezia did not give up and found the equaliser in the 55th minute: Ridgeciano Haps set off on a counter-attack, beat a defender and slotted the ball into the bottom corner to level the scores. Juventus maintained control of the game, though in the 71st minute Di Gregorio did superbly to deny Issa Doumbia's right-footed shot. In the 72nd minute the Bianconeri were awarded a penalty for a foul by Nicolussi Caviglia on Francisco Conceicao. Locatelli was ice cool from the penalty spot: placing a powerful shot under the crossbar to make it 3-2, and the game was back in our hands.

In the closing stages, Igor Tudor's substitutions of Dusan Vlahovic and Weston McKennie ensured freshness in attack, while the rearguard repelled the Venezia's last ditch attempts. In the 83rd minute a Fali Cande free-kick struck the wall, whilst in added time Yeboah tried again but found Di Gregorio ready and waiting

Nothing more happened in the encounter: the Bianconeri end the league season in fourth place. See you in the Champions League next season.
