Yet another blockbuster transfer had reportedly been agreed by Manchester City last month alongside their finalised deals, claims from Italy have revealed.

The Premier League champions were the most busy of clubs in European competition during the winter window, in a clear change of direction from usual approaches taken by the club in the January market.

Widespread investment is being seen by those within the game as a representation of Manchester City’s awareness of the fact that Pep Guardiola’s squad is in dire need of an urgent rebuild, having exhausted its talent and options to the maximum with great reward.

And among the positions yet to be refreshed is right-back, particularly after the club sanctioned the exit of Kyle Walker to AC Milan on loan until the end of the season, in a deal that allows the Italians to buy the 34-year-old for around €5 million in the summer.

However, while a player was not brought in during the January window to replace the England international, new reports from Italy have claimed that an agreement had been reached between Manchester City and Juventus over a blockbuster full-back transfer.

According to the information of TuttoSport, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, City had ‘found an agreement’ with Juventus over the transfer of full-back Andrea Cambiaso during the recently-concluded January transfer window.

It is claimed that City agreed to pay €60 million and bonuses, while an agreement over personal terms was also in place with the 24-year-old, who was ready to sign a four-year deal and double his salary at the Etihad Stadium.

However, the move was reportedly delayed due to Manchester City’s spending elsewhere in the market and no official offer was lodged, although it is claimed that a move to the Premier League giants could go through after the summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.

For now, it remains to be seen who else could emerge on Manchester City’s transfer radar in the right-back role, and whether Andrea Cambiaso will remain a target during the summer window.

Reports this week from Colombia have suggested that the Premier League champions could look into the idea of Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz, while facing competition when it comes to interest from Chelsea and Barcelona.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong has admirers within the Etihad Stadium too, and the player’s affiliation with Manchester and being an Academy graduate of the City Football Academy facility could work in the club’s favour.
