There was a 50/50 chance Juventus and Milan would square off in the Champions League playoff, but that won’t be the case. The two Serie A sides will face Dutch teams instead, PSV and Feyenoord respectively. The Bianconeri already beat the opponent in the group stage, topping them 3-1 at home. Instead, the Rossoneri are paired up with the club they are negotiating for Santiago Gimenez with.
Atalanta will take on Club Brugge. The matches will take place between February 11th and 19th. Lille or Aston Villa will be next for La Dea if they get past the Belgian side.
Juventus and Milan are in the same part of the bracket as Inter and Arsenal. A Serie A clash would be guaranteed if both advanced. It’ll be decided by another draw on February 21st.
“It’s better to have avoided the meeting between Italian sides, but we respect Feyenoord and we mustn’t underestimate anybody. We wished to avoid the playoff and made things difficult for ourselves. We’re all disappointed. However, when others face us, their attention is at the maximum level. We must question ourselves because we have the qualities to bounce back. We have to remain positive, cancel what happened, and look at the future with confidence.”
Instead, in the Europa League, Roma, which secured their berth in the final round, will have to deal with Porto. There could be a derby in this case too. The winner of the playoff will face either Lazio or Athletic.
